Social Studies Web Quest for 7th Grade

Introduction:

Imagine that you and your family have gone back in time to the colonizing of America.
You and your family have traveled for many weeks across the Atlantic Ocean in order to settle in North America. Once you have arrived and settled in, you realize that your life has changed in many ways; you’re not in your familiar home anymore.

Task:

You have been given the responsibility of determine where you and the family are going to settle in the new world. There are many reasons for this dramatic change in your lives. The family must clearly present to the colony organizer the reasons why they should be allowed to join his travel party. Consider the reasons, religious freedom, trade or farming.

Process:

Three Cheers you have chosen your colony!


1. You and your family will now research your potential new home. Click on the colony title to research your new home.
2. Using the information from your research, write a persuasive statement to the group organizer convincing him why your family should join his colony.
3. You will now discover the role you will play within your family unit – adult male/female, child (teen), indentured servant or slave.
4. After learning your role, click on the site to see what life has in store for you. Be sure to take notes you will need them later.
5. Create three journal, diary or oral entries. These entries will let everyone see how you are growing up colonial.
